DETERMINED THOM PLAYS SURPRISE NEW YEAR GIG
British singer SANDI THOM delighted fans with an impromptu gig at Glasgow's Oran Mor venue on New Year's Eve (31DEC06) after her scheduled concert in the Scottish city was axed.
The I WISH I WAS A PUNK ROCKER (WITH FLOWERS IN MY HAIR) star was scheduled to welcome in 2007 with 25,000 revellers in Glasgow's George Square, but the event was cancelled due to extreme rain and wind.
However, Thom was determined not to disappoint, insisting, "Members of my band had come from all the country for this and we wanted to play a gig.
"You get so psyched up for something like this and it was really disappointing for it to be taken away. So I rang around a few of my friends and told them I didn't mind where it was, I just wanted to play a gig.
"I wanted to please a crowd somewhere in the city. I would have played on someone's floor! In the end we got to play at Oran Mor in Glasgow's West End. Our stage kit had to be very different. There was no room for a drum kit on stage so we had to make do with a drum box."
