CATHERINE DENEUVE - DENEUVE: 'FRENCH CINEMA IS BEST IN THE WORLD'

Veteran actress CATHERINE DENEUVE has poured praise on the "unique" works of European cinema and hailed French filmmaking as especially fine. The French REPULSION star is in Tokyo, Japan to attend a festival of her country's cinema starting today (15MAR07), also called on movie distributors in the Far East to screen more films from France. She says, "There are great filmmakers in Hong Kong and Korea but I think that European and especially French cinema is very different. "It's cinema that's all at once emotional, that speaks a lot and explains a lot, and that understands the quite universal things about love."
