CHRIS DE BURGH - DE BURGH HUMILIATED BY SUPERTRAMP
Veteran crooner CHRIS DE BURGH was once packed in a box, wheeled on stage and left to climb out in front of thousands of fans - thanks to a practical joke by British rockers SUPERTRAMP.
The Lady In Red hitmaker, 58, was ridiculed by the group when he supported them during the early years of his career on their Crime Of The Century tour.
Supertramp frontman Roger Hodgson, who is embarking on a solo U.K. tour next month (Oct07), admits he got a kick from being a prankster.
He says, "We used to play tricks on him. Chris used to have a habit of running back on stage almost immediately after his set to ensure an encore. One time we grabbed him, put him in an equipment case, wheeled him to the middle of the stage and left him to climb out. I don't remember him being too amused."

This story about Chris de Burgh is soooooooo old. It happened over 30 years
ago, and since then Chris de Burgh has gone onto be a major international
artist in his own right, and still packs out venues, especially in Germany and
Canada.
And he is doing a 4 date mini tour here in the UK in November.

The story is indeed old, and it is still funny.
Indeed, it's got funnier as the intervening decades have seen De Burgh release
more and more albums yet nothing of worth, thus making the anecdote's egotism
all the more unwarranted.
He does still pack out venues. If selling stuff is the measure of talent then
let's all bow down to Mariah Carey.
