CELIA CRUZ - CUBAN TRUMPETER DIES

Cuban musician PEDRO KNIGHT died in hospital on Saturday (03FEB07) - a family spokesman says. He was 85. Knight played trumpet with the SONORA MANTANCERA and was married to the late 'Queen of Salsa' CELIA CRUZ for over forty years. The trumpeter, who was lovingly nicknamed 'cotton-top' by Cruz, was born in Cuba in 1921 and joined the famous jazz combo Sonora Mantacera in 1944. Cruz died of a brain tumour in 2003.
