Cuban-American ANDY GARCIA fears the end of FIDEL CASTRO's reign in Cuba won't bring the change and reform the country badly needs. Castro this week stepped down after 49 years in power, heralding the end of an era in the communist Caribbean nation. But Garcia, 51, whose family fled the capital Havana for the USA after Castro came into power in 1959, isn't optimistic. He says, "In 1959, Fidel Castro took power in Cuba with the promise of restoring the 1940 constitution, free elections and democracy. "Forty-nine years later, like most Cubans, I'm still waiting for the fulfillment of those promises. I can only hope that a day without Fidel Castro in power is a day closer to a free and democratic Cuba. "Unfortunately his brother Raul, his assigned successor, dresses from the same cloth."

I read your writing on the resignation of Fidel Castro and it is sad that you and so many other Cubans are still waiting for the fullfillment of the promises given to you so many yers ago. It seems like the story in one of the movies that Andy starred in, where the Cuban musician left his country to go to new york and open his music bar / restaurant there. I do have a question to ask Andy if he can or want to answer me on this one: What possibilities are there for Cubans? I mean what possible solutions can you see? What could be done to help Cuba? I am sure that you do have ideas that if implemented by the right people, your ideas might bring a positive change to the country....what would they be? Thank you for writing your article and for reading this comment. Owen
