CRAIG: 'AUSTIN POWERS RUINED BOND'

DANIEL CRAIG is convinced BOND bosses were forced to take the 007 franchise in a different direction because MIKE MYERS' AUSTIN POWERS films ruined the spy genre.
The last two Bond movies, 2006's Casino Royale and last year's (08) Quantum of Solace, both starring Craig, have taken on a darker, less light-hearted tone than their predecessors.
And the British actor is adamant future 007 films will not return to the catchphrases and gags that were a staple of previous Bond incarnations.
Craig blames Myers' Austin Powers trilogy, which poked fun at all things Bond, for the change.
He says, "Don't get me wrong, I'm up for (gags), as long as the gag works. But the problem is that Austin Powers screwed everything up. He exploded the genre."
