FLAMING LIPS frontman Wayne Coyne has revealed that the band will be starting recording work on their new album early next year.

According to the singer, they have half an album's worth of material already written and will be heading in the studio in February or March 2009.

Speaking to BBC 6 Music, Coyne said the new songs are an interesting mixture of styles.

"I think we have a good batch of cool sounding songs, I know we've done a couple of things that sound like kind of a mixture between John Lennon meets Miles Davis from his electronic phase or something. Sounds exciting," he said.

He added that the band are keen to get the album out by next year, as they planning a world tour and several summer festival dates.

The band have also just released their film Christmas on Mars, for which they wrote the entire soundtrack.
