COMEDIENNE SUES FAMILY GUY

US cartoon show Family Guy is being sued by actress Carol Burnett.

The 1960s and 1970s US television show host, famous for her own brand of satire and fun-poking, is seeking $2 million (£1.03 million) for copyright infringement on one of her best-known characters.

Charwoman, a cleaner in the original Carol Burnett Show, was briefly shown as a maid in a porn shop on a Family Guy episode broadcast last April.

Ms Burnett contests that the use of her character also violates her publicity rights.

"Family Guy, like The Carol Burnett Show, is famous for its pop culture parodies and satirical jabs at celebrities," a 20th Century Fox spokesperson said.

"We are surprised that Ms Burnett, who has made a career of spoofing others on television, would go so far as to sue Family Guy for a simple bit of comedy."

Ms Burnett also claims that an "alternative" version of her show's theme tune can be heard in the background on the episode.

Whatever would Stewie say?
