COLDPLAY have turned down the chance to follow in PRINCE's footsteps and perform a residency in London, because frontman CHRIS MARTIN is convinced they aren't popular enough.
The Purple Rain hitmaker sold out 21 dates at London's O2 arena last year (07), and Coldplay have been touted to take over and entertain the capital's music fans over a series of nights.
But despite their millions of album sales, singer Martin believes a residency would be a flop.
He says, "He (Prince) sold out 21 nights. I don't think we could. You can't do that unless you've got impeccable facial hair. With my facial hair we could probably sell out five nights."
