CLOSE CALLS FOR END TO STRIKE
Actress GLENN CLOSE is tiring of asking the Writer's Guild of America (WGA) to call off its strike, claiming picketing members are turning the public against them. The strike - a bid by writers to secure better pay deals from movie and TV studios - has caused chaos in the entertainment world, grinding TV and movie production to a halt for more than two months. The Golden Globes award ceremony was cancelled last week (13Jan08) because stars were compelled not to cross the picket line, and the strike stands to threaten the forthcoming Academy Awards, if neither side backs down. Close tells the New York Post, "I'll never cross a picket line, but this writers' strike may now be at a point where it's counterproductive."
