GEORGE CLOONEY - CLOONEY + CHEADLE HONOURED BY NOBEL WINNERS

Hollywood stars GEORGE CLOONEY and DON CHEADLE are to be honoured for their efforts to bring peace to war-torn Darfur by winners of the Nobel Peace Prize. The award will be presented in Rome next month (Dec07) by the 8th World Summit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates - a group which includes former Soviet President Michael Gorbachev, former President Jimmy Carter, the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Archbishop Tutu praised Clooney and Cheadle for their continued work to highlight the plight of people in the Darfur region of western Sudan. He says, "I am always moved when I see artists such as George and Don use their positions to speak up for the most vulnerable of our fellow human beings. "They have brought the suffering in Sudan into the awareness of millions, and have raised tens of millions of dollars to assist the victims of violence there. They inspire us all and show that every person, in every walk of life, can do something to help make the world a better place." Since 2004, Clooney and Cheadle have both travelled to the African nation to highlight the crisis facing war refugees in the region. They also both appeared in the 2007 documentary Darfur Now.
