A CLOCKWORK ORANGE - CLOCKWORK ORANGE HOUSING ESTATE TO BE DEMOLISHED

Residents of a town in south England are celebrating after winning their fight to tear down the housing estate immortalised in 1971 film A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. Director STANLEY KUBRICK's violent masterpiece depicted a bleak futuristic vision of Britain, and the Tavy Bridge estate in Bexley, Kent was chosen as the perfect backdrop for the film. Residents, however, think the film's depiction of violence has tainted the area and are glad the buildings are being demolished in preparation for a regeneration project. Bexley councilman IAN CLEMENT says, "It's a fresh new start."
