ERIC CLAPTON - CLAPTON VOWS TO HELP TROUBLED SOCCER STAR
Reformed rocker ERIC CLAPTON has vowed to help troubled former soccer star PAUL GASCOIGNE beat his addiction to alcohol.
The guitarist, who has conquered heroin and alcohol addictions, has offered the English sporting legend the chance to seek help at his Crossroads treatment centre in Antigua.
Clapton says, "It is the perfect place to begin the road of recovery.
"We believe that the majority of individuals suffering from addiction have the capacity for recovery if given the proper foundation to begin their journey. We help provide that foundation."
Gascoigne hit the headlines earlier this year (08) after he was sectioned under the Mental Health Act. He has also been in rehab in a bid to beat his drink demons, but the treatment proved unsuccessful.

Mr. Clapton knows that sometimes you have to go to treatment more than once in
order to succeed. He also knows that until that person becomes willing and
surrenders to their disease that they will not make it. We cannot fix anyone
just like no one could fix him. He is only doing what the program suggests and
that is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. This is
what he is trying to convey in vowing to help troubled soccer star.
