10 - CHRISTIAN STAR NORMAN DIES

Christian rocker LARRY NORMAN has died of heart failure. He was 60. Norman, who is best known for fronting religious band People! in the 1960s, passed away at his home in Salem, Oregon on Sunday (25Feb08). People! scored its biggest hit with a cover version of The Zombies' I Love You in 1968, but Norman left the group the day their debut album of the same name was released. The following year (69), Norman released his debut solo album Upon This Rock, which is widely considered to be the first Christian rock disc. Norman was inducted into the Gospel Hall Of Fame in 2001. A public memorial service is planned to take place at the Church On The Hill in Turner, Oregon at 10am on Saturday (01Mar07).
