REM have revealed that CHRIS MARTIN helped them come up with the name for their new single.

The band opted to call the tune SUPERNATURAL SUPERSERIOUS after the COLDPLAY front man offered it as an alternative to the original title DISGUISED, reports NME magazine.

Speaking to Jo Whiley on BBC Radio One, REM singer MICHAEL STIPE said: "We were in London, in Soho, mixing the record and Chris Martin was working on the Coldplay record as well, and he's great friends with the band.

"He was listening to the song, and said 'It's a great song but a crap title, you have to change it'. He offered this title and we went with it."

The song will be the first single off the band's latest album ACCELERATE, which will be released on March 31st.

This news follows Chris' admittance that he has difficulty naming things.

Speaking as he announced that COLDPLAY's new album would be called VIVA LA VIDA – inspired by a Frida Kahlo painting – the singer revealed that people often dismiss his song and album names as "terrible" and he had to convince them otherwise.
