CHER's 1998 chart-topping hit BELIEVE is at the centre of a furious legal spat, with the two writers behind the track insisting they are owed $550,000 (GBP300,000) in royalties. PAUL BARRY and MARK TAYLOR, who are fighting music publishers Rive Droite, were previously described as the company's "star" songwriters, but their relationship has since turned sour. Rive Droite's lawyer NIGEL ANGEL says, "Barry's claim is being vigorously denied and we don't accept its validity."
