CARREY FEARED ROMANCE WAS OVER WHEN MCCARTHY DISAPPEARED

JIM CARREY feared his romance with JENNY MCCARTHY was over before it really started when the actress/model insisted on time alone to deal with her autistic son EVAN's health crisis.
The funnyman wasn't aware that his new love was suffering panic attacks as she attempted to balance a new romance with her young son's issues - and when she "disappeared" he feared the worst.
Speaking on Wednesday's (24Sep08) Oprah, the actor said, "She kind of disappeared from my life for a little while and she called me up and said, 'Here's the deal'."
The couple worked through their problems and now MCCarthy can't imagine life without Carrey.
She explained, "Jim also really helped me release some emotion that I was carrying. At first, he kept saying, 'You look really angry.'"
Carrey interrupted, "I call it a nervous breakthrough... I think people have ways of hiding their emotions; people think their emotions are ugly. But when she finally broke down... I don't think she had ever done that in her entire life.
"Her therapist said there was anger there because she felt guilty for giving her son autism... To feel that guilt is the beginning of a healing process."
