STEVE CARELL - CARELL + BINOCHE BONDED OVER BARBRA STREISAND
STEVE CARELL and JULIETTE BINOCHE were forced to perform a karaoke song together when they first met, because their DAN IN REAL LIFE director was so concerned his stars would be mismatched. Moviemaker Peter Hedges had chemistry concerns about the odd couple - and had to take drastic action to make sure Carell and the French actress would be believable as a big screen pair. Carell explains, "The director wanted to see if Juliette and I had the right chemistry so, I'm not kidding, he asked us to sing along to Barbra Streisand's Endless Love. "I resisted, but she was game. So we went for it. I don't know who has that tape, but it better not end up on YouTube." Carell jokes the chemistry check was unnecessary - because Hedges would "wheel in someone Juliette really did love" for romantic scenes. He adds, "She wasn't really looking at me at all. She was looking dreamily at this person she really did have chemistry with."
