HELEN MIRREN - BRITS CLEAN UP AT THE GLOBES

British actors cleaned up at the Golden Globe awards last night with a host of weighty rewards.

However, the shining star of the night was Helen Mirren, who sparkled as much as her two shiny Globes for best television actress and best movie actress for her royally good performances in mini-series, Elizabeth I, and hit film, The Queen.

House actor Hugh Laurie was named best actor in the television drama category for the hospital drama which is now on its third series.

Modest Hugh clearly wasn't expecting to take an award home, telling the glamorous audience: "I am speechless…I am literally without a speech." He also thanked the House crew for not being, "drunken thieves".

Jeremy Irons also picked up an award for best supporting actor in Elizabeth I.

There was also a glitzy trophy for comedian Sacha Baron Cohen for his controversial portrayal of his journalist character, Borat, in: "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan."

For actors on the other side of the pond, the musical loosely based on the lives of the Supreme, Dreamgirls, won best musical/comedy film while supporting actors Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson picked up Globes.
