DAVID BOWIE - BOWIE AND LEGEND SIGN PETITION AGAINST T-REX TRIBUTE BAND

attends the 2008 Vanity Fair Tribeca Film Festival Opening Night Party, held at State Supreme Courthouse.
New York City, USA ....
Stars including DAVID BOWIE and BILL LEGEND have signed a petition against a T-REX tribute group marketing itself as the defunct Seventies band.
The impersonating band have called themselves T-Rex, with the subtitle A Celebration of Marc and Mickey, after original T-Rex stars Marc Bolan and Mickey Finn.
And now a petition to halt the band has been signed by 500 people including former T-Rex drummer Bill Legend, rocker David Bowie, and record producer Tony Visconti, who worked with Bolan in the studio.
He says, "For a bunch of old guys to go around calling themselves T-Rex is outrageous. The only link they have to the original is through one member, Paul Fenton, a second drummer with T-Rex for a short period of time.
"This sets a dangerous precedent. What's next? When Paul MCCartney dies, will a group emerge calling themselves The Beatles?"
But the band insists they created their act in a bid to honour the Get It On hitmakers.
Manager Barry Newby says, "Mickey wanted the band to continue after his death and also have T-Rex mentioned somewhere in the title.
"This band was created to perform Bolan's great songs. We never had any intention to upset anyone. We perform, in our opinion, the most dynamic T-Rex show in the world."

It is quite sad that a musician that played with Marc for such a short period feels
that he can now claim the name of T.Rex for himself. I have to comment about Barry's
claim re their show...T.REXTASY (not this 'new' T.Rex')in the UK remains the only
band that has ever been endorsed by Wizard Artists (Marc's original publiching company)and
has been seen and recommended by original T.Rex people and family including Gloria
Jones (Marc's girlfriend), June Bolan (Marc's wife), Bill Legend (THE original drumme
r), Tony Visconti (Marc's Producer), Mickey Finn (Percussionist) Dino Dines (Marc's
keyboardist), Miller Anderson (Marc's guitarist) Harry Feld (Marc's Brother), Rolan
Bolan (Marc's son) etc etc...the only person of note ever to lay approval on this
new band is Rolan (as he guested on stage with them - as he has done with T.Rextasy
too!) In fact Rolan's first EVER stage performance was at T.Rextasy's concert for
Marc's anniversary at the Cambridge Corn Exchange in 1997 - where coincidently Paul
Fenton was invited to play as guest to T.Rextasy! I am not against this band at all
because T.Rextasy remain the most popular and authentic tribute to Bolan (see endorsements
above), but it's literally just the name of the band that is wrong - even if they
changed it to Paul Fenton's T.Rex it wouldn't be THAT bad! One may fool some of the people
some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time, and you won't
fool the Children of the Revolution.
Rock and keep Marc in Your Heart.

It is good, such things come to public now, (though it's sad you'll need headline
names like David Bowie or Roy Wood to get noticed at all...)
Finally this is NOT a competition between rival bands or musicians. I would like
to see as many bands keeping Marc Bolan's music alive as possible - It's just the
NAME. In fact this band uses Bolan's original biography, too, claiming to be the
original / original followers.
At least it all is so simple:
"No Bolan, No T.Rex" /
"No Lennon, No Beatles" /
"No milk, No milkshake"
Everyone who serious is into music, please sign in.
KEEP HISTORY REAL
