U2 - BONO AND THE EDGE 'SET FOR SPIDERMAN MUSICAL'
U2 frontman Bono and guitarist the Edge have reportedly signed up to write music for the forthcoming Spiderman musical.
The musicians will be working with the show's producers to create a soundtrack for the webbed crusader's Broadway debut, with rehearsals to begin later this summer.
Julie Taynor will be directing the show and previously adapted the Lion King for the stage with impressive results.
U2's reported connection to the franchise means they are now in good company as the latest Spiderman film came with a blockbuster soundtrack.
The Flaming Lips, the Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Snow Patrol all recorded tracks for the Spiderman 3 album, which features in the movie.
Bono and the Edge have previous experience of writing music for a comic book adaptation having provided the song Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me for the Batman Forever soundtrack in 1995.
The song was a hit in the US and was nominated for an MTV Movie Award.
Bono is a busy man at the moment having met the German chancellor Angela Merkel yesterday to discuss the future of Africa and the role of the G8.
