LATEST: HAIRSPRAY star NIKKI BLONSKY's father will remain in jail for a minimum of 11 days after he was denied bail on felony charges of grievous bodily harm after an altercation at an airport last week (ends01Aug08).
Carl Blonsky was arrested with his daughter following a fight with U.S. reality TV star Bianca Golden on 29 July (08) and both were taken into custody by Turks and Caicos Islands police.
A judge at the Providenciales Magistrates' Court ruled on Friday (08Aug08) that Blonsky Sr. must wait until 19 August (08) before he can post bail.
According to Prosecutor Samantha Glinton, Golden's mother Elaine had to be airlifted to a Florida hospital, where she stayed for five days before being released to a neurologist as a result of Blonsky's alleged attack.
Glinton added: "While her (Elaine Golden's) condition has improved, she still has some problems. She is in the healing stage. She has a right cerebral traumatic lesion, according to the report. She has a slurred left side, left side weakness, insomnia, and memory impairment."
Blonsky's lawyer, Oliver Smith, contended prosecutors are "trying to set up a potential lawsuit" by exaggerating Golden's injuries, telling the court: "My client ...is not a wealthy man. He works in a sewage plant. No prior convictions."
The altercation between Blonsky and Golden is alleged to have started in the departure lounge at the Providenciales International Airport after the actress attempted to save seats for her family, and Golden had nowhere to sit.
Nikki Blonsky and former America's Next Top Model contestant Golden remain free on bail.
The actress - who did not attend the hearing - faces a two-year prison spell if she is found guilty of a charge of actual bodily harm, when her case goes to court in December (08).
Blonsky Sr. could be sentenced to up to five years behind bars if convicted.
Golden's mother Eleine remains in a Miami hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
