CATE BLANCHETT - BLANCHETT STUDIED TO SPEAK HER NATIVE ACCENT

2008 Santa Barbara Film Festival - Modern Master Tribute to Cate Blanchett held at the Arlington Theater
Santa Barbara, California ....
Antipodean actress CATE BLANCHETT has made so many films speaking with a foreign accent she had to research how to talk as a convincing Australian in LITTLE FISH. In recent years, the 37-year-old has played a variety of roles including British monarch ELIZABETH I and US actress KATHARINE HEPBURN. And strangely Blanchett found speaking with her native Australian accent in Little Fish required more preparation than usual. She says, "I'm used to dipping into other cultures and accents so it's important when you go back to your own country that you don't go down the route of cliche in your accent. "So my research was more painstaking than usual in this film."
