BARBARA BUSH HAS ULCER SURGERY

President GEORGE W. BUSH's mother BARBARA BUSH is expected to spend several days in hospital after surgery for a perforated ulcer.
The former first lady, 83, was taken to a medical centre in Houston, Texas after suffering stomach pains on Tuesday (25Nov08).
She was due to be released the following day, but a spokeswoman for the hospital has now revealed the extent of Mrs Bush's condition, confirming she had an operation after a series of tests.
Ami Felker says, "She underwent routine, laparoscopic surgery (on) Tuesday night to correct a perforated ulcer. She was resting comfortably Wednesday morning, and visiting with her family."
The spokeswoman added that Mrs Bush is expected to be released from hospital next week (begs01Dec08).
She is married to George Bush Sr., who was the 41st President of the U.S. and served in office from 1989 to 1993.
