DIRTY PRETTY THINGS star CARL BARAT has criticised British rockers COLDPLAY for giving away their latest single for free - insisting the move is bad for the music industry.
The Yellow hitmakers gave fans the chance to download their new track, Violet Hill, for free from their official website earlier this week (begs28Apr08).
Coldplay follow in the footsteps of artists including Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails who have also allowed music lovers to sample their music without paying.
But Barat is convinced that when high profile bands give their music away, it makes it much harder for lesser-known musicians for make a living.
He says, "You could say they (Coldplay) were jumping on the bandwagon a bit. You can't escape the fact that big name, big money bands who release their stuff for free are harming the scene.
"The industry is struggling financially and this is like missile after missile. How do new bands compete?"
