BAI LING'S ARMY PAST
WILD WILD WEST actress BAI LING once served in the Chinese People's Liberation Army, but left because she couldn't curb her rebellious instincts. The Chinese star joined the army as an entertainer aged 14, and would get up at 5.30am every day for lessons in acting, singing and shooting people, before leaving at the age of 17. She says, "I felt like I had more to give and there was more of the world to see. I was drinking a lot of alcohol, smoking and was kind of lost. "My whole lifetime I'd been rebelling against my parents, my schoolteacher and then my army leader. I was always doing something wrong and always having to apologise. "But I'd mostly enlisted because I liked the uniform anyway."
