SILVERCHAIR - AUSTRALIAN BANDS UNITE TO CHALLENGE ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS

SILVERCHAIR, POWDERFINGER, THE VERONICAS and OPERATOR PLEASE are among the Australian stars teaming up to fight illegal music downloads.
A ten-minute documentary, which will be distributed to all high schools Down Under, shows artists explaining how gruelling the recording process can be - in a bid to stop teenagers downloading their tracks for free.
And the bands involved in the video are attempting to challenge the public perception they make lots of money and lead glamorous lifestyles - and insist they need to earn cash to survive.
Lisa Origliasso of The Veronicas says, "The problem with downloading obviously is that it's ruining our industry in a way, because I mean you know artists just aren't making money, record companies aren't making money from it."
Amandah Wilson of Operator Please adds, "I'm not going to deny it. I have downloaded music in the past and it's only when you start being in a band you actually realise how sort of damaging that can be."
