DARREN ARONOFSKY - ARONOFSKY TAKES ON 'FANTASY NOAH'
Director DARREN ARONOFSKY is desperate to redeem movie adaptations of biblical story Noah's Ark with a fantasy version of the Old Testament tale.
The Requiem For A Dream moviemaker is fed up of seeing the flood story flop at the box office - most recently the Steve Carell-starring Evan Almighty (07) - because producers concentrate on comedy.
He says, "Everyone who's ever done Noah has done it as comedy because there are very comedic elements about it; a man and some animals. Even when John Huston did it, when he did his The Bible, it's kind of silly.
"But I don't think it's a silly story... In reality it's a story about apocalypse, the planet is wiped out, all of humanity is destroyed and all the other animals that didn't make it to the boat are wiped out as well.
"But it's not dark, it's more towards Lord of the Rings. It's fantasy Noah."
