ARMSTRONG SETTLES LIBEL CASE

Tour de France champion LANCE ARMSTRONG has settled a lawsuit against British newspaper which claimed he used performance-enhancing drugs. The American sued The Sunday Times over an article implying he has taken drugs to improve his cycling. Armstrong, who retired from the sport last year (05), has denied ever taking drugs to keep him at the top level. The two parties settled after a court ruling that may have made it more difficult for the newspaper to defend the case. Details of the settlement have not been revealed. The seven-times Tour de France winner says in a statement, "I always said that the article falsely alleged that I was guilty of doping. The article was based on untrue allegations, which are without substance."
