Sheffield's Arctic Monkeys have been named the best live band in the country at the Vodafone Live Music Awards.

Their award comes after a year in which they have released a second album, Favourite Worst Nightmare, and headlined the Glastonbury festival on the opening Friday night.

Among the other winners at the awards ceremony at London's Brompton Hall was Amy Winehouse, who scooped the best live female act honour.

She beat off competition from Lily Allen, Kate Nash and KT Tunstall to take the award, making it a double-winning night as she also took the best female gong at the Mobo Awards across town.

In the male best live act category at the Vodafone awards, Mika reigned supreme after being nominated alongside James Morrison, Mark Ronson and Jamie T.

Other nominees for the best live act award were Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian and Muse, who took the honour last year, but all three lost out to the Arctics.

Among the other awards dished out, Kylie Minogue picked up the show production of the year for her comeback tour after treatment for breast cancer, the Showgirl Homecoming tour.
