AMERICAN IDOL RAISES $64 MILLION FOR CHARITY

AMERICAN IDOL is set to donate $64 million (GBP42 million) to charity after hosting a TV fundraiser.
Celebrities including Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon and Miley Cyrus were among the guests at the Idol Gives Back special in April (08).
Fergie, Mariah Carey and Carrie Underwood performed as part of the charity drive, and Britney Spears was so moved by the plight that she donated $25,000 (GBP16,450).
The final tally of the star-studded extravaganza will go to help six U.S. and international charities - and the show's creator couldn't be happier.
Simon Fuller says, "The fact that American Idol has the ability to inspire millions, create hope and change lives is simply remarkable. We are extremely thankful to our viewers, sponsors and outstanding talent who continue to motivate each and every one of us to contribute to those who need it the most."
