ALLEN LETS LOVERS CRUZ + BARDEM BABBLE IN SPANISH
WOODY ALLEN was so comfortable with his VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA co-stars JAVIER BARDEM and PENELOPE CRUZ he let them ad-lib scenes in Spanish - even though he couldn't understand them.
The moviemaker could only stand back and hope the real-life couple weren't dissing him, swearing or being inappropriate as the cameras rolled.
He says, "They were just acting up a storm, and I had no idea what they were saying. I just thought, `I'm sure it's great.'"
