AFI - AFI ANNOUNCE 2007 TOP TEN

Pregnancy comedy Knocked Up has been named on the list of the ten most outstanding movies of 2007, compiled by the American Film Institute (AFI).

The Judd Apatow-directed film - one of the biggest box-office successes of the year - joins some illustrious company on the AFI's eighth annual shortlist of the best motion pictures of the last 12 months.

Also included on the list is Paul Thomas Anderson's epic There Will Be Blood, Sean Penn's environmentally-conscious Into the Wild and Disney Pixar's hugely successful Ratatouille.

Michael Clayton, No Country For Old Men, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, The Savages and Juno complete the top ten.

The list is reserved for feature films with significant creative input from the US, though they need not be presented in English, as Julian Schnabel's French-language The Diving Bell and the Butterfly illustrates.

The AFI also named the ten best television programmes of the year, with serial killer comedy Dexter and high school football saga Friday Night Lights both making the list for the second year in a row.

A sprawling climactic series saw The Sopranos included in the top ten, while British talent was represented by Longford and Pushing Daisies.

Everybody Hates Chris, Mad Men, Tell Me You Love Me, 30 Rock and Ugly Betty rounded off the top ten.

The AFI television awards will be presented at January 11th ceremony at the Four Seasons hotel in Los Angeles.
