AFFLECK BACKS OBAMA ON SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE

Hollywood actor BEN AFFLECK made a last minute bid to garner support for U.S. presidential candidate BARACK OBAMA by proposing a theory on how to take-down his political rival JOHN MCCAIN on U.S. TV.
Affleck has joined a host of celebrities rallying for Obama as Tuesday's (04Nov08) election approaches - but admits the candidates he's backed in the past have always been defeated.
The Pearl Harbor star played host on Saturday's (01Nov08) episode of comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live - the same evening MCCain made a guest appearance on the programme.
And Affleck insisted backing the Arizona senator could bode well for Obama's run to the White House.
Opening the show he joked, "Of course like many of you, my mind is on next Tuesday (04Nov08), with this incredibly important election. I've always been politically active myself...
"Basically my support has the opposite effect, so it seems the best thing I can do for the Democratic party is stand here tonight and announce my endorsement of Senator John MCCain. He's actually here tonight. He's a great guy. I can't wait to tell him the news, I'm sure he'll be thrilled."
