Xanadu Set For Stage Debut
A stage version of roller disco film XANADU, which starred OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN, is in the works for a spring 2007 debut. The music will be taken from the film version, which was written by JOHN FARRAR and former ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA member JEFF LYNNE, and will include Newton-John's hit song MAGIC. The fantasy-romance follows a frustrated artist and a has-been big-band leader (played by GENE KELLY in the movie) inspired by a mysterious woman (Newton-John) to build a flashy roller disco. The film flopped when it was released at the box office in 1980, but went on to become a cult classic. The new stage version will be tested in markets outside of New York City, before playing at a yet-to-be-determined venue in the city.
