Winslet And Mendes Are 'Destroying' Village Life
Actress KATE WINSLET and her director husband SAM MENDES have angered residents in the rural village where they live, by snubbing the local community.
The couple - who moved into a $6 million (GBP3.3 million) manor house in Boughton-on-the-Water, England two years ago - avoid villagers and have ruined the atmosphere of the community, according to their neighbours.
Parish chairman TREVOR BIGG says, "People come from towns where you don't need to get involved in things going on around you, and in general you can leave it to others because there are larger numbers.
"Gradually we see the character of the village change as we get more and more weekenders or people who commute to London moving into the villages."
Mendes and Winslet had another fall-out with councillors earlier this year (04) when planning permission to build a new porch on their Grade II listed home was rejected, with one official saying it would look like a "shop front".08/08/2004 21:07
