Who'll Become Abc Anchor -- Sawyer Or Gibson? And What About Vargas?
Conflicting rumors began spreading Monday over who will take over anchor duties on ABC's World News Tonight. Some said that ABC was about to announce that Charles Gibson will take over as "temporary permanent replacement" for Bob Woodruff, who suffered severe injuries while reporting from Iraq in January. Others said that the network was about to name Dianne Sawyer as anchor. Newsweek TV writer Verne Gay took a stand staunchly in the middle ground, writing on Monday, "Late last week, some believed Sawyer actually had the inside track over Gibson because of her superlative skill as a boss whisperer. But one well-placed source says "wiser heads have prevailed" and that now Gibson could be named anchor or co-anchor instead."
