Washington Fears Racism Is Still Rampant
DENZEL WASHINGTON fears future generations will still be dogged by racism, because youngsters are still being taught colour prejudice. The MALCOLM X star, who portrayed murdered black South African activist STEVE BIKO in the 1987 movie CRY FREEDOM, dreams of a racism-free world but believes a new generation of haters are being raised on his doorstep. He jokes, "(Racism's) all gone. There is none anywhere in the world ever. It is nowhere. It is all gone! Gone forever!" He adds seriously, "No, but listen. There's racism in Hollywood Boulevard and Madison Avenue. "People are taught to hate and they learn it well."
