Washington Does His Bit For Charity

Generous Hollywood star DENZEL WASHINGTON has donated thousands of dollars to a US army centre which is helping soldiers wounded in Iraq.

The MAN ON FIRE star dug deep after visiting the specialist burns unit at the Brooks Army Medical Center in San Antonio with his family.

The Texas base is well-known for it's 'Fisher Houses', where soldiers wounded in Iraq, especially burn victims, are hospitalised and their relatives can stay for little or no charge.

When kind-hearted Washington learned there weren't enough Fisher House facilities available, he simply asked how much one would cost to build and wrote out the cheque.

A source tells PAGESIX.COM, "He wrote out the full amount right there on the spot."
