Wallace And Gromit's Paltry Payout
WALLACE AND GROMIT creators Aardman Animations have received an insurance payout of less than $1.7 million (GBP1 million) to cover the valuable clay figures lost in the blaze that destroyed their warehouse last year (OCT05). In the fire at their warehouse in Bristol, England, the animators lost, among other characters, much-loved plasticine double act Wallace and Gromit from Oscar-winning movies including WALLACE + GROMIT: CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT. And although Aardman insist some of their creations were worth $170,000 (GBP100,000) each, insurance company Norwich Union valued Wallace at $6,800 (GBP4,000) and faithful pooch Gromit at a mere $3,400 (GBP2,000). An insider says, "Many at Aardman feel they haven't been paid out anything like what they should be. "Some Wallace and Gromits destroyed were originals. They could fetch GBP100,000 each on eBay."
