Undertones Deny Peel Tribute Single

THE UNDERTONES have refused to reissue their TEENAGE KICKS single in tribute to late DJ JOHN PEEL, because it would be "totally inappropriate".

The legendary British broadcaster, who died a week ago (25OCT04) from a heart attack while holidaying in Peru, regularly proclaimed Teenage Kicks to be his favourite song and will have lyrics from the hit inscribed on his tombstone.

Since Peel's death various UK bookmakers have placed odds on the 1977 track securing a number one single this Christmas (04).

However, Undertones manager ANDY FERGUSON counters, "It would be totally inappropriate to release Teenage Kicks as a single and is not something the band would even consider."
