Ulrich Slams Mustaine

METALLICA drummer LARS ULRICH has attacked former bandmate DAVE MUSTAINE, accusing him of using the band to promote his own group MEGADETH.

Mustaine recently complained about a recent Metallica documentary he appeared in - to discuss his brief stint in the group - insisting it made him look stupid.

But Ulrich has snapped back, claiming the singer should stop talking about a band he was in for just two years, never made a record with, and left in 1983.

Ulrich says, "I'm a little perplexed by his reaction.

"There's this weird thing that's kind of sad and pathetic that, X percentage of the press around a new Megadeth release simply becomes about Metallica.

"Remember that the guy was in our band for just around a year. He's never played on a Metallica record. It was 22 years ago. It's pretty absurd that it still can be that big a deal."

Well, Lars... Yeah he was in the band for a short time, but in the documentary it was said several times by James AND yourself, that you always felt like you weren't really one of them, that it took 40 some-odd beers before you could get close to James the way Dave could in a matter of minutes, and I think you resented that. Dave isn't obsessed with Metallica, he was obsessed with the music you guys were making, the friendship you all had. James, Lars, Dave, and Cliff. He had finally become part of something that he knew was gonna be huge and yes he did get into the stereotypical rocker lifestyle, but instead of helping as much as you could, you booted him out. And it was especially easy for you because then you would have James all to yourself. Watch SKOM Lars, very closely and you'll see what I'm talking about. Dave is and has every right to be bitter about how all that went down. However, you can't ignore the fact that he helped pen some of your most classic works. AND went on to form a multiplatinum, grammy- nominted, rock n roll hall of fame bound band of his own. The Megadeth/Metallica thing will always be there. Both bands get new fans everyday and when you learn the history of the two, it is quite remarkable. Metallica's name can't help but be brought up. The two will always be compared. No matter what. I guess it's a blessing and a curse at the same time. I am a fan of both, but favor Megadeth. That's just my personal opinion. I have heard many stories and rumors about all the history, and this is what I have came to gain form all of it. I wish both bands the best of luck. And look forward to hearing more and more kicks ass metal from the Godfathers of metal, Megadeth, AND Metallica.
