U2 Top List Of Uk-Sourced Overseas Sales
U2's latest album HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB beat ROBBIE WILLIAMS' GREATEST HITS to top British trade magazine MUSIC WEEK's list of 2004's overseas sales for UK-sourced albums.
The Irish rockers sold 7.5 million copies of their album outside of the UK last year despite releasing it in late November (04), while Williams claimed second place after selling 3.8 million copies of his compilation, which was released in October (04).
STEVE MATTHEWS, managing director of U2's management company PRINCIPAL MANAGEMENT, says, "There was some high profile promotion early on, a fantastic first single, the APPLE tie-in and we were coming off the back of ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHIND, which itself re-introduced a lot of people to the band."
Scottish rockers FRANZ FERDINAND came third in the chart with their eponymous debut album, shifting 2 million copies outside of Britain.21/01/2005 17:51
