U2 Star In Newspaper Court Battle
U2 guitarist THE EDGE has taken an Irish newspaper to court after it reported details of an illness suffered by one of the rocker's relatives, which has caused the start of the band's world tour to be delayed by a month.
The SUNDAY WORLD identified the family member and their medical condition in a cover story earlier this month (08JAN05), but quickly withdrew the exclusive from later editions after The Edge, real name DAVID EVANS, instructed his lawyers to obtain a temporary injunction barring the newspaper from repeating its story and other newspapers from reprinting it.
A High Court judge today (31JAN05) agreed to a two week delay before holding hearings in the court case. Legal representatives for the Sunday World argue the details of the unnamed relative's illness are newsworthy because they are the reason why the VERTIGO tour has been put back.
The HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB icons were due to play their first show in Miami, Florida on 01 March (05), but the tour will now begin in San Diego, California on 28 March.31/01/2005 17:34
