American TV actor Gerald McRaney has undergone surgery to remove a cancerous growth from his lung.
The MAJOR DAD star went under the knife at Houston, Arizona's MD Anderson Cancer Center on Monday (30AUG04), according to his publicist.
Doctors only spotted the growth two weeks ago, while preparing McRaney for minor knee surgery. Although it was malignant, medics are confident they have caught it at an early stage.
The actor is expected to return to Los Angeles in time to begin work on his new show COMMANDO NANNY, which will air in American from September (04).
A spokesperson for the 56-year-old - a longtime smoker - says, "I'm sure that he will plan to quit."
