Treble Triumph For Arctic Monkeys At Nme Awards
Indie icons ARCTIC MONKEYS were the big winners at last night's (23FEB06) NME Awards in London, scooping three awards including Best British Band.
The four-piece, whose album WHATEVER PEOPLE SAY I AM THAT'S WHAT I'M NOT is the fastest-selling debut in UK chart history, were also named Best New Band and their song I BET YOU LOOK GOOD ON THE DANCEFLOOR won Best Track.
Despite being nominated in six categories, KAISER CHIEFS were unable to match the dominance they displayed at last week's (15FEB06) Brit Awards, winning only the Best Album gong.
American rockers THE STROKES picked up the Best International Band title, while KANYE WEST was crowned Best Solo Artist by readers of the long-running UK magazine.
IAN BROWN was awarded the Godlike Genius Award, TAKE ME OUT stars FRANZ FERDINAND were named Best Live Band and GORILLAZ took home the John Peel Music Innovation Award.
