Timberlake Pens Aids Charity Song With Missy Elliott

Pop hunk JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE and hip-hop pal MISSY ELLIOTT are recording an updated version of classic charity track WE ARE THE WORLD to raise funds for AIDS charities.

The pair will join producer TIMBALAND - who is the driving force behind the new track, entitled THE WORLD IS OURS - and a host of un-named stars on the song.

We Are The World was written by legendary music guru QUINCY JONES in 1985 after he was inspired by Irish singer SIR BOB GELDOF's LIVE AID, and performed by superstars including LIONEL RICHIE and MICHAEL JACKSON.

The anthem was released as part of the USA FOR AFRICA project which was conceived by crooner HARRY BELAFONTE as the American version of Live Aid - it raised over $90 million (GBP56 million) for famine relief in the troubled continent.

And now, today's big names are hoping to make the same incredible contribution in the fight against AIDS.

Timbaland says, "I see this as a passing of the torch. I will use the legendary model of We Are the World, but update it in a way that works for the trends of the music industry today.

"Just as Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson did, we will create an anthem with today's most talented artists to produce a song that will bring the world's attention to the Aids pandemic."
