Caption: Bono (Picture) (of U2) visits the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Washington DC, USA ....
American travel writer PAUL THEROUX has slammed BONO's poverty awareness tactics - claiming the U2 star has no idea about what third world countries really need to tackle their problems.
Theroux, who has written extensively about Africa and penned the travel memoir DARK STAR SAFARI, is concerned Bono is doing more harm than good by "badgering people for money" when education is the real key to Africa's redemption.
He says, "There are probably more annoying things than being hectored about African development by a wealthy Irish rock star in a cowboy hat, but I can't think of one at the moment.
"I would not send private money to a charity, or foreign aid to a government, unless every dollar was accounted for - and this never happens.
"Dumping more money (on Africa) in the same old way is not only wasteful, but stupid and harmful; it is also ignoring some of the more obvious points.
"Bono not only believes that he has the solutions to Africa's ills, he is also shouting so loud that other people seem to trust his answers."

| concessum..... The maternal love of the Catholic Church embraces all people. As you know, venerable brother, the Church from the beginning sought to completely eliminate slavery, whose wretched yoke has oppressed many people. It is the industrious guardian of the teachings of its Founder who, by His words and those of the apostles, taught men the fraternal necessity which unites the whole world. From Him we recall that everybody has sprung from the same source, was redeemed by the same ransom, and is called to the same eternal happiness. He assumed the neglected cause of the slaves and showed Himself the strong champion of freedom. Insofar as time and circumstances allowed, He gradually and moderately accomplished His goal. Of course, pressing constantly with prudence and planning, He showed what He was striving for in the name of religion, justice, and humanity. In this way He put national prosperity and civilization in general into His debt. This zeal of the Church for liberating the slaves has not languished with the passage of time; on the contrary, the more it bore fruit, the more eagerly it glowed. etc....spanish gerl | ||

| If Theroux had educated himself At All! about what Bono's doing he would have found that Bono firmly believes and expresses this belief, that the answer is not just pouring money down a rat hole, he's a complete advocate of aid with accountability - otherwise forget it, you will not get aid. Bono has said, at least a thousand times, and I know because I read and watch what he's doing very closely, that he wants your voice not your money. This is the concept behind the One Campaign. Maybe you should check this out, Theroux, before you start slamming Bono. As a writer, you look like a fool when you talk about someone you obvisously have not read much about. | ||
