THE SOPRANOS is to return for a seventh series, despite previous assurances by TV bosses that the forthcoming sixth season would be the mafia drama's last.

Creator DAVID CHASE has so many storylines left to bring to a conclusion he has now decided to write another series of the New Jersey mobster drama, which stars JAMES GANDOLFINI and MICHAEL IMPERIOLI.

Chase says, "These characters still have great interest for me. I really enjoy it, so why leave something like that?"
