The Pixies Return In Style
Cult rockers the PIXIES wowed fans in Minneapolis, Minnesota, last night (13APR04) as they kicked off their reunion tour at the FINE LINE MUSIC CAFE.
The group performed a flawless 27-song set for its first show in 12 years, featuring mostly early fan favourites and rarities like LEVITATE ME and BROKEN FACE.
Bass player KIM DEAL and frontman BLACK FRANCIS also duetted on a cover of NEIL YOUNG's WINTERLONG - a song the group has been working on during its two-month pre-tour rehearsals.
The four-piece had to wait to start their set due to a two minute ovation from the 800-capacity crowd; some of whom had paid $400 (GBP222) for tickets on Internet auction site eBay to see their heroes.
After performing opening track BONE MACHINE, a thrilled Francis said, "It's starting to feel like our first gig."
The group performed a seven-song encore before leaving the stage to riotous applause.
A limited edition 1,000 live CDs of the performance were sold immediately after the show. New York internet company www.disclive.com plans to sell 1,000 official bootlegs after each of the Pixies summer shows and 2,000 after their official reunion show at California's COACHELLA FESTIVAL on 1 May (04).14/04/2004 20:55
